Connecting the playbook player to your AV system (HDMI, audio, network & API)

Video, audio and automation that follow the playbook seamlessly — connect the playbook player easily to your existing AV system.

Seamless AV integration

Technology that follows the playbook flawlessly

A service must run flawlessly on the technical side: image on the LCD in the hall, good sound, and where needed a recording or livestream that automatically follows the playbook. With our playbook player you play services from a single central PC and can easily integrate it into your existing AV infrastructure.

On this page you can read how the connection works, which audio options are available, how you organise the controls and what possibilities there are for automation via TCP/IP and our API.

HDMI distribution

From playbook player to the hall via an HDMI matrix

The playbook player is a PC with an HDMI output. This lets you connect the player to an HDMI matrix, so you can distribute the image to, for example:

  • the LCD screen in the hall

  • additional displays (foyer, control room, family room)

  • a capture/recording setup (if you have one)

This setup is familiar, reliable and fits well within most existing AV racks.

Sound

Audio: tapping off via HDMI or via USB audio

For audio there are two common ways to export the signal from the playbook player:

  • Tapping audio off from HDMI
Ideal if your chain (matrix/processor) can neatly de-embed HDMI audio and pass it on to your sound system.

  • Audio export via a USB audio device
Handy if you prefer to offer audio as a “dedicated” output to a mixing console, DSP or recording/streaming chain.

Which option is best depends on your current equipment and the desired routing (e.g. a separate mix for the livestream).

Control

Control everything from your browser, including the livestream

Control of the playbook player works entirely via the web browser. So you need no separate software installation: you log in via a URL and control the player from any suitable device.

What makes this environment unique is that from the playbook controls you can also directly start and stop the livestream. You thus have full control over both the content in the hall and the broadcast for viewers at home, all from a single screen.

You can set up the controls flexibly:

  • Laptop with a wired UTP connection (recommended for a stable connection in the control room)

  • Tablet via Wi-Fi, as long as it is on the same network

This way you work from the control room with the highest reliability, while also having the freedom to move around the building.

Automation

Automate with TCP/IP: content information to external AV systems

The playbook player can send TCP/IP messages to an external AV system. These messages contain data about the content currently playing. This lets you automate smart actions such as:

  • switching cameras based on what happens in the playbook

  • having AV equipment respond automatically (e.g. scenes or lighting presets)

  • the recording/stream automatically switching to the playbook player as the source

This ensures a professional, consistent production with minimal chance of human error.

Integrations

API integration: your own connections (Crestron, AMX, Extron, Q-SYS)

Do you want to integrate deeply into your building automation or central control? The controller can also be driven via an API. This lets you write (or have written) your own integration for systems such as:

  • Crestron

  • AMX

  • Extron

  • Q-SYS (a driver is also made available for this, to be requested from Q-SYS)
